Nick Frost on Tintin – “most stressful thing I’ve ever done”

simon-pegg-nick-frostIn an interview with The Guardian Nick Frost (Hot FuzzShaun of the Dead) spoke a little about working on The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn withSteven Spielberg and Peter Jackson.

Nick finds acting difficult because he doesn’t have the back-up of training. On the Tintin film, the script kept changing, to such an extent that he and Simon were sometimes handed their words just minutes before they went on. “I need a week to really get a scene into my head. And you’ve got Steven Spielberg and Kathy Kennedy, who’s the most powerful woman in Hollywood, and Peter Jackson, who’s co-directing from New Zealand using iChat! It was the most stressful thing I’ve ever done. Having said that, Spielberg was amazing. Sometimes he’d run on at the end of a scene and do a little dance and punch the air.”

Spielberg recently finished the performance-capture stuff and Peter Jackson is now working on the special effects for 18 months with WETA in New Zealand.

Thanks to Filmonic for this post.

Simon Pegg Finished with Tintin

More Tintin movie news:

The Hollywood Insider did a nice little puff-piece on Simon Pegg. In the article the author writes:

Pegg also says he just completed shooting his role as Inspector Thompson in Steven Spielberg’s 3D motion-capture extravaganza The Adventures of Tintin, which he shot with his Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz costar Nick Frost.

We have known for some time now that the Tintin movie has moved on to Jackson’s studio in NZ for all that fancy-shmancy digital tomfoolery. But it still feels like they JUST started production a little while ago. Time sure flies by…

Tintin in 3-D

According to the Seattle Times, the upcoming Tintin movies (to be released in 2011) are going to be released both in the traditional 2-d format and in the new 3-d format. Here’s the quote:

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson have announced that they will direct the first two installments of the franchise “The Adventures of Tintin,” to be filmed in 3-D motion capture. The first film, “Secret of the Unicorn,” is set for release in 2011.

It is going to be weird enough to see Tintin on the big screen. Not sure how I feel about seeing him in 3-d.

What is this man talking about?

In a March 22, 2009 LA Times article, Belgian cartoonist Benoit Peeters said:

“America has its own traditions, very rich, through comic strips or comic books with superheroes,” Peeters said. ” ‘Tintin’ is in a way a graphic novel, but the style of the books was very far from American standards. . . . The graphic style is different. There is no equivalent. You can find some people in the United States interested in that type of comics, but not a large audience.”

What do you think? Do you think Hergé’s style keeps Americans from reading it? I don’t. In fact, I think the reason more American kids don’t pick them up earlier is the quantity of words and availability (not enough stores carry the books and when they do they aren’t displayed well). The books are daunting for an early reader with that unusual font and crowded sentences. Yet, EVERY kid who comes in to one of our stores almost always finds themselves drawn into the Tintin section. While the mom or dad shops, the kids sit on a couch or chair and flip through piles of Tintin adventures. But what do you think about Peeters’ comment? On the mark? Off the mark? Why?

Tintin on YouTube

I recently received this email from another Tintin fan. Thought I would share.

Hello sir,

I discovered your blog a few days ago, and as you seem to be quite a fan of Hergé’s works, I take the liberty of telling you about my YouTube channel, on which I put interesting – and, for most of them, English-subtitled – videos about Hergé and Tintin, as I am a great fan. I’m telling you about my channel because I thought that maybe you could find in it some interesting pieces of information about this universe, for your blog or for your personal curiosity.

Here is the URL of my channel : http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=quiestce88&view=videos <http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=quiestce88&view=videos>, what do you think ?

I thank you for your attention, and send you my regards.

Have a nice day.
