Daniel Mays: Spielberg was amazing

895903Daniel Mays has said working with Steven Spielberg on the new Tintin film was an awesome experience.

The British actor can currently be seen starring in new movie Shifty, but is due to appear in the animated movie The Adventures Of Tintin: Secret Of The Unicorn.

Daniel said: “They’re really adamant that no one opens their mouth – but I can just say the opportunity of working with Spielberg was one in a lifetime, and it was just an awesome experience, amazing.”

The 31-year-old actor and his partner have a young son Mylo. Daniel admits to have “made a career playing characters who are sort of dark and a bit troubled” but wants to be in more films his son can watch.

He said: “I’m actually doing a small part in the new Nanny McPhee film, which is vastly different from anything I’ve done before, it’s a kids film. So I’m going to go straight onto that which is going to be really fun.”

But Daniel – who appeared in Channel 4 sit-com Plus One – is keen not to be type-cast.

He said: “I enjoy doing comedy as much as the serious stuff so it’s about trying to stretch yourself as much as possible as an actor because if I’m bored then the audience are going to get bored as well.

“I think to a certain extent every actor, there is always a level of people pigeon holing you. Even the DeNiros of this world are sort of looked upon as playing just gangsters and psychopaths.”

Tintin Back from Vacation

Tintin enjoying the sand and surf in Captiva, FL

The TintinBlog has not been updated for a little while because we were away on a much needed vacation. The family went to Captiva and had a great time enjoying the sun, surf, and slow pace of the prettiest place on the Gulf Coast. Tintin had a particularly fine time – although he did complain a little about sand getting into his socks.

Behind the Scenes at the Tintin Movie Set

EmpireOnline has an article on the upcoming Tintin movie. I have never heard of this magazine let alone seen it, so I have to assume it is a British thing. If anyone grabs an extra of this issue covering the Tintin movie, send it to me here. I will reply with a gift from the ShopTintin.com site. Here’s the article:

Did we mention that Steven Spielberg is guest-editing Empire‘s 20th birthday issue? Well, he is – and the boss-man also invited us on set of his latest film, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn to see what’s going on with his new motion-capture spectacular. This shot was taken during a few moments of down time on the set, and shows Tintin himself (Jamie Bell) and Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) talking with Spielberg. You’ll have to check out the issue itself for more on the film, including more pictures, and more on the cast involved (notably Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as Thompson and Thomson).

Steven Moffat, Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright wrote the screenplay, based on Hergé’s massively popular books. The film’s not due out until 2011, by which time CGI magic will have replaced those dots and greenscreens with pure awesomeness.

New Tintin Zipper Pulls and Lithographs

We just received a smallish shipment from our friends at Moulinsart. In the box were a bunch of cool zipper pulls – the perfect small accessory for a bag.

A little more exciting are the new LITHOGRAPHS that we scored. Not only are they amazing looking, but Moulinsart did us right and out of editions of only 1,000 for worldwide production, they sent us lithos that are all numbered under 200!

Tintin Comics Button Badge Collector’s Set

Just ran across these buttons during a brief tour of Etsy. I normally don’t post about product for sale that isn’t authorized by Moulinsart, but these are too fun not to share. They are also a great idea for how to repurpose old book covers. This would be a great home project with a child.
