Conference exams Hergé and stereotyping

A recent conference in England has taken to serious studying of comics, or what is referred to as Bande Dessinee. A majority of the conference papers have been on the subject of Tintin. According to T.H.E.,

About half the papers in this year’s conference focused on Hergé’s Tintin, looking at its racial stereotypes, leopard symbolism and links with Catholic youth movements.

Even though the field of academic study around Bande Dessinee is relatively new, it seems to any serious Tintin fan that the subject of race, colonialism, etc has already been spoken to. But maybe I’m wrong about this. What are your thoughts?
