I admit. Because I am juvenile, the first thing I thought of when I heard that Tintin was being set to music was our favorite boy reporter doing Jazz Hands.
That’s right. Tintin is going musical.
“Award-winning Swedish cellist Mats Lidstrom has created Suite Tintin, a composition based on the popular comic book series The Adventures of Tintin, which will be performed at the Bath Festival of Children’s Literature this coming Sunday.
It was inspired by Lidstrom’s childhood passion for Tintin, the young adventurous reporter created by Belgian artist Hergé in the 1920s. Lidstrom will be accompanied by Michael Farr, a renowned Tintinologist (knower of all things Tintin), who will be reading from The Adventures of Tintin in between excerpts of Lidstrom’s composition.
Speaking about the collaboration, Farr said; “In nine short movements, Mats’ Suite Tintin atmospherically evokes particular scenes from The Adventures of Tintin. For instance, Tintin approaching the Black Island by boat, Snowy dodging bullets to get a bone, Professor Calculus furious at being accused by Haddock of “acting the goat.” It is great fun and very true to the spirit of the books.”
Farr has written several books on the subject of Tintin and its creator, Hergé, as well as translating several others into English.” (via)
