New Tintin book to accompany film.

It was inevitable, right? In conjunction with the release of the Tintin movie, a book. The Art of The Adventures of Tintin.

The Art of The Adventures of Tintin is the beautifully presented book that will accompany the new film from Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures, The Adventures of Tintin, due for release in late 2011.

This 3D performance-capture film, based on the universally popular series of books The Adventures of Tintin by Herge, is directed by Steven Spielberg, and produced by Sir Peter Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy.

The animation, visual effects and conceptual design for the movie are being created by Weta, the multi-Academy Award-winning company based in New Zealand that helped create global blockbusters such as The Lord of the Rings, King Kong and Avatar. The Art of The Adventures of Tintin was created by the actual Weta artists who brought Herge’s wonderful Tintin characters to the big screen.

From early concept illustrations to final shots from the film and everything in between, this book gives fans a rare glimpse of the creativity that goes into making a film like this a reality. The book even includes special pieces of artwork produced exclusively for this book.

The Art of The Adventures of Tintin features forewords from Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. Oscar winners Joe Letteri and Richard Taylor also share their insights into the film-making experience in their introductions for this outstanding book.

Moulinsart, the official organisation that looks after the world of Tintin, has contributed an introductory chapter on the comic’s creator Georges Remi, aka Herge, and has kindly provided examples of his inspirational artwork for reproduction in the book.

Chris Guise, the author of The Art of The Adventures of Tintin, provides a unique perspective on the film, both as a lifelong Tintin fan and as the lead conceptual designer on the film. Guise interviewed many of his colleagues about the production of the movie and lets them tell their stories and inspiration behind their work in their own words.

The Art of The Adventures of Tintin will be published by HarperCollins Publishers in the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand simultaneously on 13 October in two exciting formats: a visually dynamic 200-page hardcover book and a ground-breaking digital e-book. The e-book will include wonderful additional imagery, special audio commentary from the film makers, character animations and extra content. (via)

Well Tintin fans-necessary or not?

Forget the Movie. Play Tintin The Game instead!

We knew it was inevitable. A video game based on the Tintin movie.

According to Game Informer, at their E3 2011 press conference Ubisoft revealed more about a game based off the upcoming Peter Jackson/Steven movie The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn. The game is a mix of different gameplay types, allowing players to step into the shoes of the old school adventurer.

Spielberg and Jackson boast the story of Tintin as being one of the most iconic adventurers of all time, and a hero that inspired the film luminaries in their youths. It appears the two are offering consultation in the game’s development on some level.

The trailer showed Tintin and his trusty dog Snowy in action. Players will be able to control Snowy, fly a plane, and gun down enemies from a motorcycle’s sidecar. The action appears to switch between side-scrolling and 3D gameplay. One gripping sequence has Tintin escaping a sinking ship, with water violently crashing down hallways.

Though the movie is in 3D, it’s still unknown whether the game will support three-dimensional viewing. The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn is due out this fall, in coincidence with the film. It will be available on DS, PS3, 360, Wii, and PSP.

Well, Tintin fans. Would you play the Tintin game?

Tintin in Japan

Tintin is hitting Japan. Of course, they have to wait for the movie too. But at least they can read the books in the meantime!

Anthony Horowitz to write second Tintin movie!

According to a recent interview, yes, it’s true. Anthony Horowitz, of Alex Rider fame, has been spending some time in Hollywood, working on the script for the next Tintin film, Prisoners of the Sun.

I’m working in Hollywood at the moment, I’m writing a feature film even as we speak. I’ve been hired to write Tintin…

The Secret of the Unicorn is being directed by Steven Spielberg and was written originally by Steven Moffat, of course the writer of Doctor Who in this country. He did a couple of drafts then it was taken over by Edgar Wright… they’ve got [that] coming out at Christmas and if that film is a success and works and gets an audience I’m writing the sequel to it, Prisoners of the Sun, which Peter Jackson is going to direct.

Let’s hope the first is a hit, and we get to see what Horowitz can do with the script. (Thanks Bleeding Cool.)

In our house, we love Horowitz for his dark children’s book Granny, which my son and I adored.
