Tintin in the Congo: a Congolese Perspective

Nuala Sawyer, a former staff member, and accomplished photographer, was in the Congo recently. She was in charge of stills for a film that was there on location. When she wasn’t taking photos of the cast, crew, and location, she took the following images, which you can see on her blog. According to Nuala, unlike most Western Europeans and Americans, Tintin in the Congo is embraced by the Congolese. Perhaps perspectives on race are just different in the Congo, or perhaps Tintin is embraced because he is European. What do you think? Oh, and all photographs belong to Nuala Sawyer and are copyrighted as such.

Tintin Fan Photos at WATERPOD

Thanks to a New York City fan for emailing these photos of Tintin at what, apparently, is a floating farm. Called WATERPOD, it is currently on the Hudson in Harlem. The plan is for it to dock at all 5 boroughs. People are living on it, growing food, etc. Don’t think they have livestock, but who knows? Learn more about the project here.

Tintin Returns from Korea

Hi folks. We are back from what was an awesome trip to South Korea. While I am suffering from jetlag at the moment (Korea is 13 hours ahead of us), I am awake enough to share some photos. The trip took us 10 days with the first few in Seoul, getting acclimated. We then flew down to Jeju Island, which is kind of like Maine and Oregon in Island form. Jeju sits on the southern most tip of South Korea at the confluence of the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan. Tons of old volcanoes and sooooo lovely. We wrapped up the trip back in Seoul. So much to see. I wish I had more images of Tintin in Korea. Honestly, though, we were so distracted with what we were doing, Tintin didn’t make it out of the camera bag as often as he should have. Oh well, maybe next time.

Tintin in Korea

We are off for a longish holiday to South Korea. Be back soon with lots of pictures of Tintin seeing the sites.

Hergé Museum is open (sort of)

The opening of the Hergé Museum is becoming old news now, but I just wanted to make a comment about how frustrated I am that the Museum’s website doesn’t have an English language version. I want to know more from the source, but I can’t because of my limited French. Has anyone been (or is planning on going) and picked up some English language brochures? If so, would you be willing to send me a photocopy or scan for my personal use? Sydne and I were supposed to have attended the opening, but our impending trip to Korea took priority. The building looks great, and ALMOST everything I have read has been very positive. I look forward to attending one of these days. In the meantime, here I sit…
