A fan wonders if Tintin is depressed…

Over at a popular Tintin forum, a fan muses over Tintin’s mental health. What do you think? Has Tintin ever come across as a “happy person”? I’ve always considered him so serious.

Here’s the quote from “Aishwarya“:

When I first read Flight 714 as a ten-year-old, I found it gloomy without understanding why. Now re-reading the story after ten years, I discovered the reason: Tintin hardly smiles and doesn’t laugh a single time in the entire book! That is really unusual and, in the context of this particular book, inexplicable.

In Tintin in Tibet, it is no surprise that Tintin doesn’t laugh very often. But in Flight 714, even in the opening sequence where Tintin is on a holiday with his friends, he looks strangely uneasy. His expressions drift between neutral and frowning. It is Tintin’s sombre mood which rubbed off on me when I read the story as a child. I wonder, was he depressed, and if so, why? Speculations as to the cause(s) will be interesting!

Tintin in China? A food question for readers

Here at the Tintin Blog, I do a lot of research. I comb the internet for Tintin gems to share with you. And I’ve  noticed something.

What is up with the vast number of Chinese restaurants in North America that are named Tintin?

There’s a Tintin retaurant  in Alberta, Canada.

There’s a Tin Tin Buffet in Charlotte, North Carolina. (Check out the review here.)

Tin Tin in Buffalo? Check. Vacaville, California? Also, check.

Brighton, Massachusetts? Yup. There’s a Tin Tin Buffet there.

Chinese food in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania? Try Tin Tin Chinese.

Try the Tin Tin Buffet in Medford, Oregon.

And don’t leave out Tin Tin in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Pawtucket, Rhode Island? Indeed.

I’m sure the folks from Dunder-Mifflin eat at the Tin Tin in Scranton.

Okay, I think you get my point. And this phenomenon is worldwide, with Tin Tin restaurants in the UK, Australia, Kenya, and more. I need help with this one. Do any of you have any explanation?

No Dorks Here! Be proud of your Tintin collection!

This morning, I was troubled to read of a questioning Tintin fan. Here, we own our Tintin pride. This young man clearly needs our help. Read on:

Does my Tintin action figure and memorabilia collection make me nerdy and undateable?

Now this is a very serious question, primarily for the women out there, but guys, you might have some input as well, and I am grateful for it and welcome it all.

I’m a 30 year old former professional who found that his first career (J.D.) wasn’t what he wanted to do for the rest of his life, so now I’m back at college polishing up my sciences so that I can go to Medical School. I’m financially secure, my family is pretty normal, and I’m attractive enough: tall, fit, decent face. I am bald, but I’ve got a good build.I have a decent place near campus considering that I’m living frugally with future tuition costs in mind. Anyway, blablabla….

My quandary is this: I’ve been collecting these action figures, model cars, and sculptures from this French language mid 20th century comic book entitled ‘Tintin’ for years and now I feel like they give off a very “nerdy” or “toolish” vibe to my place.

Here’s a link to some of the statues I have collected, I like them a lot and it’s a way of remembering my ancestry and the good times from my childhood and my Grandmother who would read them to me in French:

I also have some of the 1:43 scale model cars, which are very well done…

Okay, so I guess the question is: Ladies, if you met a guy who was chill, that you were thinking “he seems okay” or “this might be going somewhere good…” or whatever. Not a “no”, but you were somewhat interested, would seeing some of this stuff in said guy’s nice, clean, well furnished apartment freak you out?

Please just give me your honest reactions to this. I want to make a great first impression, but I don’t wish to compromise my individuality.

What do you think? Do the cartoon statues and cars stay or do they go?” (via)

Tintin T-Shirt made into Bag

Not really sure what to say about this. Found it during a search for something else. Even though it is from 1996, I am still justified in being appalled that anyone could even consider throwing away that AWESOME t-shirt.
